Thursday the 31st: Music of the Week

*I have my last wedding for the summer on Saturday, so this week is making sure that all of that is ready. I have a few songs to learn, but both are pretty easy. I'm just hoping enough of the students for the choir show up that we have a nice full sound.

*I'm up to song 8 in slowing dipping my toe in the musical music. None of it's too hard, but none of it sounds good right now because it's my first exposure.

*No Masses this weekend so I'm slowly working on music for the next Mass after that.

Wednesday the 30th: Food of the Week

I'm not sure whether to share this picture or not, but today I made a peach custard pie and trusted the Son to take it out of the toaster oven while I drove to my mammogram and back. He didn't feel a sense of urgency about taking it out when the timer went off, but I think it's just the top is a little...toasty...and the rest should be fine. The Husband gets home from his AAPM Conference tonight so he will get pie and chicken salad with Avocado and Mango and citrus dressing. As will we.

Last night I made banana pecan pancakes; the Son had asked for them, but when I asked them how he tasted, he said he realized he probably just wanted normal pancakes. They were fine; just not what his stomach wanted.

Monday we had fresh cornbread with veggie soup from the freezer.

Tomorrow I'm trying a new-to-me bolognese recipe that starts on the stovetop but finished in the crockpot. Friday will be a carrot-orzo salad with dill; I've made it before so we'll see if it's as good as my past self says.

Tuesday the 29th: French toast

The Husband has been gone a lot the past two weeks, but the Son still needs food (as do I). Last week we made Cinnamon Blackberry French Toast; we will probably finish the leftovers today. It's pretty sweet, but sometimes that's nice for a change of pace.

Monday the 28th: St. Ignatius of Loyola

*Thursday this week is the memorial of St. Ignatius of Loyola. As a vowed Benedictine Oblate, I don't love the Jesuits. I'm not supposed (halfway joking?). However, Ignatius was a huge influence on the Church and the Jesuits, with their teaching and missionary work, continue to do lots of work for God to this day. Happy feast day to my Jesuit graduate sister-in-law!

Friday the 27th: Library time

*I know I cover food and music every week; I probably should also cover books. I try to read at least a book a week; sometimes I read three, sometimes I don't read any. I will probably finish the book below this week. It's been really good and helpful as I try to assist my Son in working through his own mental struggles, and I find myself using pieces of it myself when I'm anxious as well.

Thursday the 24th: Music of the Week

*I have two feast days to play for this week so some extra church music. We have switched to Mass of the Resurrection, so I'm working on polishing up the Gloria since it's a little complex.

*I'm very slowly working on the music for the musical.

*Pretty soon I'll have choir music, but we have about 3 weeks before that takes its place on my piano.

Wednesday the 23rd: Food of the Week

Two good dishes I made this week: Herbed Ricotta Pasta with Corn and Zucchini and Raspberry-Cinnamon French Toast. The pasta dish was delicious, creamy, fresh tasting. The french toast was pretty sweet, but the fresh berries keep it from being cloying. We also added some crema which was a nice contrast. In fact, both dishes had a good amount of leftovers so that I can do less cooking for the rest of the week.

Tuesday the 22nd: Trees and rings

*Over the past 5 years I've been working on building rings around our trees, both to set off a space that we don't have to mow and also to provide room for the tree roots and nourishment system. I think this year I finally bought the last blocks needed. Next week my goal is to buy lots of mulch to fill in those rings, and we should be set for the rest of this year. My only other goal is to move my sage bush so that all of my herbs (except thyme) are moved into more sunlight so they can grow more fruitfully.

*Tomorrow is St. Mary Magdalene, the Mary who saw Jesus in the garden after he was resurrected.
