*First saint of the week is tomorrow: St. John Paul II is the optional memorial on Tuesday. John Paul died in 2005 after being pope for 25 years. His early life is fascinating, with early death of both parents and a sister, being hit by a truck on his way to work, overseeing the Catholic response during the downfall of communism.
*Wednesday is the optional memorial of St. John of Capistrano, a Franciscan who preached a crusade and led them into battle, dying while on the field. A quote from his Mirror of the Clergy: Those who are called to the table of the Lord must glow with the brightness that comes from the good example of a praiseworthy and blameless life. They must completely remove from their lives the filth and uncleanness of vice. Their upright lives must make them like the salt of the earth for themselves and for the rest of mankind. .
*Thursday is the optional memorial of St. Anthony Mary Claret. The founder of the Claretians, he died in 1870 in France after serving as bishop in Cuba
